Drinking too much alcohol can take a heavy toll on a person’s health, family, and work. Preventing excessive alcohol use can improve one’s quality of life, academic performance, and workplace productivity; As well as reducing crime, criminal justice expenses, motor vehicle crashes and fatalities and lower health care costs for acute and chronic conditions.
Some of the strategies the PMO, along with local community coalitions, have implemented are:
- Comprehensive Impaired Driving Reduction Program digital marketing campaign
- Demerit Point System – an administrative penalty to alcohol retailers who serve to intoxicated individuals and minors
- In collaboration with the Wyoming Liquor Division, a community event toolkit was provided to all 23 counties.
- Responsible Beverage Server Training (RSBT) Ordinance which requires retailers to have all staff complete an RBST session
- Digital social media campaigns, radio messaging, and PSA’s
Binge Drinking
According to the Center for Disease Control, binge drinking has become a larger problem than was originally thought. It is defined as five or more drinks during a single occasion for men, four or more drinks during a single occasion for women. Binge drinking is also defined as the consumption of alcohol to the extent that harmful consequences of health, academic, legal, and others may be expected.
Some of the strategies the PMO, along with local community coalitions, have implemented are:
- Responsible Beverage Server Training (RBST) to provide servers with the skill set to limit service to impaired adult consumers
- Collaborating with local law enforcement, cab companies, and liquor retailers to encourage Safe Ride programs
- Enhanced DUI enforcement
- Digital social media campaigns, radio messaging, and PSA’s
